Over the past 18 years, I've been involved in the music industry in a wide range of professions - DJ, radio broadcast, front-of-house mixing, production, songwriting, and more - all eventually leading me to start a purpose-driven mix and mastering studio here in NYC.
I am the sole engineer here. That means when you work with DMA Audio, you work with me. Your work isn't passed off to an apprentice or assistant. I was not brought up in studios or music school, but rather in warehouses, DIY venues, and bedroom spaces, before moving on to the professional studio world. I had no idea how unique this experience was until I started working with other engineers from more polished backgrounds. I realized a lot of people had the same techniques and same sound, taught by the same industry minds. While this can be positive, it is also restricting. Being in the trenches before entering a more professional setting has invaluable to my clients. Dedicated DIY attitudes have an important place in this industry, now more than ever. I've had dozens of records that I have either produced, mixed, or mastered hit number one sales charts on top vinyl sites, beatport sales charts, and bandcamp & RA features. Records I've worked on have had millions of plays on spotify. But these things aren't my goal. My goal is to make records that stand the test of time, that correctly relay the purpose of the artist and team who put it out into the world. This means that inherently my main focus and client base is where my heart has always been - indie. Garage bands and bedroom producers are where original ideas are really made. This is where learning happens, and where people care for a whole different set of reasons. These client needs deserve the same, if not more care for their work. It genuinely makes the musical world a better place to do so. I want to provide that and I am equipped to do so. On top of all this, I've personally made a lot of records. I have been for almost two decades. As of 2018 or so, I run two labels called Whiskey Disco and Lovedancing, and currently still DJ (although less frequently) under the pseudonym Pontchartrain. You can check out my work under that moniker here. |
